Natalia Mercado founded A Woman's Design in 2010, which is one of the first full-service agency specializing in doula and childbirth services in Minneapolis and St. Paul.
As the practice grew, so did the services Natalia offered. In 2013, The Nesting Place was established in Circle Pines. A broad range of pre-pregnancy, childbirth, sibling, early parenthood, and postpartum classes were offered year-round.
Both businesses continued to grow and additional doulas, care providers and other practitioners were added to the team.

An advocate for women’s and mental health, Natalia is a passionate entrepreneur and business advisor who’s accomplishments have helped her clients achieve professional and personal success. Giving each client the freedom to define success, Natalia believes empathy, compassion and knowledge helps them make informed decisions over every area of their life — not allowing their past to hinder their future, and helping others discover their hidden gifts and talents.

On March 23rd, WomenVenture Executive Director, Elaine Wyatt, and client, Natalia Hals, owner of A Woman’s Design, took part in a press conference in support of the Women of Color Opportunities Act. WOCOA is a multi-pronged approach to increase opportunities for Minnesota’s women and girls of color to succeed and prosper—in school, in the workforce, and in small business ownership. Spearheading the event was Minnesota Representative Rena Moran, who is passionate about creating more opportunities for women and girls of color in Minnesota. She recognizes both the essential part they play in the economic and social fabric of Minnesota and also the challenges and disparities they face when it comes to success.
